Brown pelicans are the state bird of Louisiana and were nearing extinction as I grew up in the state. Since 2009, the pelicans were removed from the endangered species list when scientists found the problem in pesticides and worked to transport brown pelicans back into the state. Now, they can be spotted throughout the state soaring through the skies or perching near water.

This original linocut is hand carved from linoleum and hand printed.
